Birdhouse Blog

Last night I added live audio (with buffered delay) to birdhouse #1.  This morning, I embedded a shot of the outside entrance to the house.  All this together makes a really interesting experience.
I'm starting to like this sort of thing!

This morning the wren began building a nest.  Looks like success in attracting a tenant.  I placed a thumbnail photo on the home page.  When ever the sensor in the birdhouse is triggered, a 15 second movie is generated as well as a still photo.  The photo is uploaded automatically.  So, now you can tell from the home page what's been happening lately.

I just happened to be looking out the window in time to see a bird clinging to the bird house and looking inside. Within a few seconds, I watched it go inside.
I made way to the computer room, where I had the camera hooked to a TV. I hit the power button and the audio came out immediately and I heard the bird inside. By the time the video faded in, the bird had left.
Later in the day, a wren moved in for the night.

The audio feed that comes with Hawk Eye camera is very susceptible to RF noise. Until I can find a way to greatly reduce the noise, It is not worth trying to capture the birds via audio.
In the mean time, you can listen to some of my Old Time Radio.

I got to the computer just in time to watch a squirrel go for the feeder and take a ride. Click the movies link to watch.

Woke up this morning to a spring thunderstorm. It went through quickly and the sun started shining. A goldfinch that I've noticed recently came to the feeders. I grabbed the my 35mm digital camera (Canon Rebel XTi) with the zoom and went to the back room to try to shoot it. Just as I looked out the window, I saw a couple of turkeys walking by. Then I saw that a Tom was further out in yard strutting all his stuff. I took some pictures of him.

After all that, the goldfinch came back and I took some pictures of it too.

This afternoon I installed a squirrel deterrent. The lower left bird feeder will spin the squirrel until it falls off. I hope to get video of that!

I guess I'm too impatient waiting for birds to occupy the birdhouses. Today, I used the extra camera and hooked it on one of the feeders.
I'll see how that goes and also keep an eye on the houses.

The first day of my almost whole week off and it's raining. I took Joan and Julie to the airport and they are on their way to Florida.
After I dropped them off at 6am , I came home and quickly departed for VW for my 20,000 mile service.
On the way home, I stopped at Lowes and picked up 2 hummingbird feeders and a hanger for the other feeders. Now they are all grouped together so the birds will have to concentrate on this area in front of the camera.
The hummingbird feeders will go up later and if any come around, I will place a camera on that feeder.
